The Top Shield Champions in League of Legends (2016)

Shields are nice little buffers that protect the always important health bar of various champions. Some can only apply it to themselves, and some can spread the love around a bit more.
Champions with shields are nice buffers that protect themselves or even their team. They are really valuable as they protect the always important health bar of various champions in the game. That being said, here are the top Shield Champions in League of Legends.

Poppy

Skill with Shield:

Iron Ambassador (Passive)
Every several seconds, Poppy throws her buckler as her basic attack, gaining range and bonus magic damage. Once thrown, Poppy can pick up her buckler to gain a shield, but if an enemy walks over her buckler, they’ll temporarily destroy it. If Iron Ambassador kills the target, the buckler returns to Poppy instead of falling to the ground.

How Shield works: Not only does Poppy get a fairly regular shield, she also literally throws her shield at the enemy. She can even use her W to shield her allies from any would-be engagers by preventing movement skills. Her giant hammer gets a lot of attention, but don't underestimate the shield.

Evelyn

Skill with Shield:

Agony's Embrace
Evelynn summons spikes from the ground to deal damage and slow enemies in the area. She then gains a shield based on how many enemy champions were hit.

Evelynn impales all enemies in the targeted area, dealing 15/20/25 (+1% Ability Power)% of their current Health in magic damage and slowing their Movement Speed by 40/60/80% for 2 seconds.Evelynn siphons their pain, gaining a 150/225/300 health shield for each enemy champion hit which lasts up to 6 seconds.

How Shield works: Evelyn doesn't get a shield often, but when she rolls up to a team fight and hits an ultimate she makes it a good one. Hitting the entire enemy team with a level 3 ultimate gives her a 1500 HP shield, which is a huge chunk of protection for someone so reliant on brave flanking.

Lux

Skill with Shield:

Prismatic Barrier (Active)
Lux sends an anomaly of twisted light to the target area, Slow icon slowing nearby enemies and granting Sight icon sight of the area around it for up to 5 seconds.

At the end of the duration or if Lucent Singularity is activated again, the singularity detonates, dealing magic damage to all enemies in the area.

How Shield works: Lux has gotten some recent changes to her shield. It overlaps application but it has a much different pattern to the speed of the shield applying projectile. It can take a lot of getting used to but also makes for some pretty impressive shielding if done just right.

Urgot

Skill with Shield:

Terror Capacitor (Active)
Urgot shields himself for up to 5 seconds, also causing his basic attacks and Acid Hunter.png Acid Hunter to Slow icon slow his target for 1.5 seconds while the shield holds.

How Shield works: I'm not going to lie, if I hadn't used Sivir in the last spotlight there isn't a prayer I'd be using Urgot here, yet here we are with the other shielding ADC. On the bright side his shield is pretty interesting, applying a slow to his attacks. An added benefit if you choose to pick Urgot is that nobody is used to playing against them, so you have the element of surprise!

Karma

Skill with Shield:

Focused Resolve (Active)
Karma shields the target ally or herself for 4 seconds and grants them bonus movement speed for 1.5 seconds.

Renewal (Mantra Bonus)
Focused Resolve heals Karma for 20% (+ 1% per 100 AP) of her missing health upon being cast.
Renewal scales with ranks in Mantra.png Mantra

If the tether is not broken after the 2 seconds, Karma is once again healed for 20% (+ 1% per 100 AP) of her missing health and Focused Resolve's Root icon root duration is increased.

How Shield works: Karma's shield is great, it comes with a big boost to movement speed as well, and when you apply Mantra to it, you can apply it to all your allies in a big area. The poke from Q is great but it's her E shield that really lets her shine as a support.
