Pokémon Go may have included an indication of where nearby Pokémon may be; in the form of “rustled leaves” images that appears on the map but the thing is, the information you get from this indicator is pretty vague and sometimes, it’s not clear what area you should be looking in. So, is there a way to better pinpoint the locations where Pokémon of various types might be lurking? Yes there is!
Remember the app named Ingress? If you don’t or has no clue about it, then let me discuss it to you for a while. Ingress is an augmented-reality massively multiplayer online location-based game developed by Niantic (Yup, the same developer as Pokémon: Go), wherein players choose between two opposing factions, and will try to capture "portals" at places of cultural significance, such as public art, landmarks, monuments, etc., and linking them to create virtual triangular "control fields" over geographical areas. Sound’s familiar eh?
Yes it is familiar! Pokemon: Go and Ingress has notable similarities. The only difference is, the Portals in Ingress are called PokeStops and Gyms in Pokemon: Go and, the Pokemon Spawn points are linked to XM generation in Ingress. So why am I telling you this?
As I’ve said earlier, Pokémon: Go may have some indication in the form of “rustled leaves but the Ingress app has a more elaborate approach on telling exactly where you should be looking for those Pokémon. Still don’t get it? I’ll give you an example below:
This is what the Pokémon: Go map looks like.
Encircled in red are the indicators that show players that there might be some Pokémon in that area. |
Now here is the Ingress map.
Those white dots are called XM. They mark areas of frequent cellular usage in an area and serve as the energy you must collect in Ingress in order to perform any actions. Take note that the above image is taken in a supermarket location.
Now I learned that areas that have dense clusters of XM are where you are going to find Pokemon. As such, the Ingress app becomes invaluable to individuals like me who do not live in an urban area. Looking at the Ingress map will tell you exactly the location where the most Pokemon are located.
So basically, what you want to do is, take a look at the Ingress map first. Find where the most white-dots are located and then open the Pokémon: Go app, and travel to that area.
For proof if this method works, just see the images below:

By doing this method, you will then lessen the time you spend finding as many Pokémon as you can or, even finding rare Pokémon as you now know exactly where to look for them. :)
