In a recent interview with Kotaku, Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma revealed some pretty neat details about the items and weapons of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Aonuma said that Breath of the Wild will be completely different to past Zelda games in terms of handling items and weapons. He stressed out that Breath of the Wild item menu will be split into separate categories, such as weapons, food, armor, and more. Additionally, Aonuma revealed that the puzzle-solving weapons in the game can be upgraded, and that the number of weapons slots can be increased.
Here's his full statement about this:
"There's a lot of things you can collect in this game, whether it's food, clothes, weapons. So in past Zelda titles we put all of that under the umbrella of 'item.' We separated that out in this one. And in terms of items that are necessary to solve puzzles, that you kind of get early in the game. And then you can actually later upgrade those. Even the number of weapon slots is limited in the beginning. Doing something later in the game will increase that and let you collect more weapons." — Eiji Aonuma
