Paragon Card Guide for Beginners

For those who are new to Paragon and needs some guide on the card system of the game, then here's a guide from Serecrul which will help you in familiarizing the card system of the game.

What are Cards in Paragon?

Cards are the Items of Paragon. They are used to empower your champion throughout the game as you collect CXP(Card Experience Points) in the form of Amber (Orange orbs collected from harvesters, minions, getting last hits, and finally killing enemy players). You can think of CPX as the gold of Paragon.

Throughout a match of Paragon your champion can get a total of 60 Card Levels. At that point you cannot buy any more cards to upgrade your character. Let us talk about the type of cards that are in the game currently! As of OT5 there are four type of cards in the game.

· Prime Helix
· Equipment Active
· Equipment Passive
· Upgrades

Prime Helix – This card is used by heroes when their team successfully gets the OP Buff. This card give you the ability to choose how this buff affects your personal champion. You can only have one Prime Helix Card in your deck. You never buy it because it just activates when you get the buff itself. The idea behind this buff it to be able to push down the lanes, and win the game.

Examples of current Prime Cards: Cost Zero (CXP).

The Warlord Prime – 76 Physical Attack, 2% Damage Bonus, 100% Damage Bonus, Unique Aura: +100% Damage Vs Minion To minions

The Centurion Prime – 1250 Max Health, 100% Damage Bonus, Unique Aura: +500% Max Health to Minions.

The Archmagus Prime – 76 Energy Attack, 100% Damage Bonus, Unique Aura: +300% Damage Vs Structures to Minions

Note: As you can see they are not complete on their damage modifiers. Also you can see that minions around you get a buff that varies from extra damage to structures to extra minion damage.

Equipment Active- These are cards that have an active ability to them such as drinking a mana potion, laying a ward, or eventually cards that may have active combat effects (not yet in the game). Some of these cards have passive benefits that can increase health, damage, or other passive stats. They can be equipped to the 1 through 4 keys. Cards Can cost one to three CXP Currently.

Example:

Mana Potion: Activate: Increases mana regeneration by 5.3 for 15 seconds. Has 3 charges. Charges refresh at base.

Health Potion: Activate: Increase Health Regeneration by 14 for 15 Seconds. Has 3 charges. Charges Refresh at base

Scout’s Ward: Places a visible ward that grants Line of Sight vision within an area. Does not grant vision of units in the shadow plane.

Brawler Ward: 7.6 Physical Attack, 75 Max Energy, [Maxed: 7.6 Physcial Attack], Active: Places a ward that is in the shadow plane, this ward grants vision within its line of sight and can see into the shadow plane.

Magus’ Ward: 7.6 Energy Attack, 75 Max Energy, [Maxed: 7.6 Energy Attack], Active: Place a ward that is in the shadow plane this ward grants vision within its line of sight and can see into the shadow plane.

Lord’s Ward: 75 Max Energy, 125 Max Health, 0.03 Cooldown percent, Active: Active: Place a ward that is in the shadow plane this ward grants vision within its line of sight and can see into the shadow plane.

Note: There will probably be active cards that have combat effects later but at this point in the OT5 there are none.

Equipment Passive- Theses are equipment cards that have no active affect like the ones above but give you stat bonus or passive effects that don’t require you to activate them by pressing the 1 through 4 key.

Harvester’s Key: Passive Place a Harvester on a well to begin harvesting. Health 2000, Capacity 720. (Note you just need to stand on the well to use this and doesn’t require a button press)

Adamant Edge: 7.6 Physical Attack, 125 Max Health, [Maxed: 15.2 Physical Attack]

Fountain Spike: 7.6 Physical Attack, 75 Max Energy, [Maxed: 15.2 Physical Attack]

Riftmagus Scepter: 7.6 Energy Attack, 0.04 Critical Chance [Maxed: 7.6 Energy Attack, 0.04 Critical Chance]

Tempered Plate: 22 Physical Resistance, 125 Max Health, [Maxed: 44 Physical Resistance]
AND MANY MANY MANY MORE!

Upgrade Cards: These are the cards you use to Improve your Passive and Active cards. The cost one to five CXP currently. They are bought and placed inside your card to give it additional stats. There is a restriction on what upgrades you can put into the item though. Only Upgrade cards that have stats with the same name as the Equipment card your upgrading can be used.

Example:

Adamant Edge: 7.6 Physical Attack, 125 Max Health, [Maxed: 15.2 Physical Attack]
This Card can only have upgrades that ether give Physical Attack or Max Health just like the original Equipment card.

Examples of available upgrade cards:
· Lesser Health: 125 Max Health (Card Level Cost: 1)
· Health: 250 Max Health (Card Level Cost: 2)
· Greater Health: 375 Max Health (Card Level Cost: 3)
· Minor Strike: 7.6 Physical Attack (Card Level Cost: 1)
· Strike: 15.2 Physical Attack (Card Level Cost: 2)
· Major Strike: 23 Physical Attack (Card Level Cost: 3)

At this time these are the only Cards you can put in the item that I am aware, but you can see that they have matching stats to the original Equipment Card.
Now the reason you want to upgrade cards come in three forms.

You only get six slots and you want as much power as possible from each slot

Upgrade cards can have more power than just the base equipment card (look at the Major Strike and Health in the example above)

Finally, you want to put in as many upgrades as possible into your equipment to unlock the [Maxed: _____] Bonus stat.

[Maxed: _____] is unlocked when you cannot upgrade your card any more. Currently in OT5 all equipment cards have three slots in them. This means you can put three upgraded cards into any equipment card item and it will get the maxed bonus which is a huge power spike for most cards in the game. It is suggested that most the time you work toward completing a card with upgrades before starting a new one till your more familiar with the game and the deck building.

Note: If the Max Bonus is Gray out means you can have as many as you want. If the max Bonus is Brown then it is unique meaning you can only have that max bonus one time in your build.

Card elements: Card art is designed to tell you things about the card like what it does, what champions can use it and it’s rarity.

Card Affinity: is the trait about a card that determines who can use specific cards. You can see what affinity a card has by the color of the left top corner and a symbol in the lower right side.
Currently in the game there are 5 affinity types

Order/White affinity
Intellect/Blue affinity
Corruption/Black affinity
Fury/Red affinity
Growth/Green affinity

Affinity determines who can use the card. Here is a list of the current champions and the affinity cards the can use currently:

Dekker: Order/White and Growth/Green.
Feng Mao: Order/White and Fury/Red
Gadget: Intellect/Blue only.
Gideon: Intellect /Blue and Corruption/Black
Gurx Corruption/Black and Fury/Red
Howitzer: Intellect/Blue and Fury/Red
Kallzri: Corruption/Black only.
Murdock: Intellect/Blue and Fury/Red.
Muriel: Order/White and Growth/Green.
Rampage: Fury/Red and Growth /Green.
Sparrow: Order/White and Growth/Green.
Steel: Order/White and Intellect/Blue.
Twinblast: Fury/Red only.

Affinity Alignment:

There is also universal cards which are accessible to all champions and seam to be gray in color.

Card cost/CXP: In the top left hand corner inside the color section referenced above there is a circle with a number in it this is the cards CXP cost. Currently in game the highest card cost I’ve seen is five however due to deck builder (See part 4) may range as high as 10.

In the middle of the card you will see card art which will help you recognize cards quickly with the item name below it.

On equipment card the will also have symbols that show how the card will affect combat effectiveness.

Card rarity: In the top right hand corner you will see your card has a colored symbol represent it’s rarity. Currently in game I have only seen:

Common/Grey

Uncommon/Green

More are sure to be added soon.

Using cards in game through the game Card Shop

Everyone Loves making there champion more powerful. Here's the step by step process on how to buy and upgrade your items.

1) To do this you must buy cards from the card shop when your back at your base(Specifically the platform yout start the gAmerican on). The hotkey to access your custom Item Shop is "G" key. You can also hit the "G" key while dead to shop till you respawn.

2) Then from this screen you will see 3 part to your screen
Your Stats on the top left side
Your available Card Points bottom left
Your available Cards on the top right.
Your currently equipped cards on the bottom right.

3) In the bottom right you can see there are slots 1-4 which represent the number keys on your keyboard for 1-4. Next to that there are two passive slots. These passive slots are designed for cards that only have passive ability’s and no active ability (example: Health Potion, Mana Potion, ect...). Don’t try to put a scout’s ward in the passive because you can never use it. HOWEVER, this rule does not apply reversely you can and should put passive cards in your 1-4 slots after you have filed your passive slots up. This is a big lose for many new players as they think they can’t get to 6 powerful items at endgame.

4) To add a card from the deck to your character you just need to click on the one you wish to use. Then you can place it into any of the slots you wish to use it on Example would be Health Potion to square 1. This is done by clicking on where you want it or hitting that key on your keyboard.

5) Finally, to equip the card click "ACCEPT" or hit "SPACEBAR".

Now it is time to upgrade a card. Open the shop after you have collected more card points and fallow steps 1 through 5 again.

6) Click in the bottom right side click on the item you wish to upgrade. When you do this all available upgrades you have in your current deck are show for that card.

7) Click on the upgrade card you wish to use in the item you have selected.

8) Click on the "ACCEPT" key or hit "SPACEBAR" to equip it. You will notice that under the card is a little box now showing which upgrade is now included on that item.

9) Repeat steps 1 through 8 till your card is maxed! When that is done now your card has unlocked the [Maxed: _____] Bonus.

This is the process to equip/upgrade cards throughout the game and will help you power up to defeat your foes.

Deck Builder

This part of the guide will be a continuously evolving process as there is much in the deck builder that is under requested change and unfinished in nature. That being said I will do my very best to keep it up to par with the OT patches.

Why build a deck?

In Paragon the idea behind having decks is that you can create or customize your own item shop. It can give you a HUGE advantage in game and lead to victory. At this moment in time a big problem with deck building is keeping track of your decks Upgrades vs Equipment. As talked about above you can only put upgrade cards that have the same stats as the equipment card you’re putting them into. (Physical Damage/ Critical item will not take a health upgrade). So keep three things in mind when building your deck.

What stats do I want to focus on? (Ex. Physical Damage/Phyiscal Penitration/Attack Speed)

What Items do I need for situational? (Flex Stats) (Ex. Lifesteal/Crit/Armor/Energy Resist)

Do all my items and flex items have upgrade paths that get me to 60 CXP.

Recall from Section One that in end game build you can have only a max of 60 CXP Levels (Card levels).

Deck builder U.I.

1. To get to deck building you will move back to the all-powerful Profile tab.

2. Under the Main menu will be a sub menu saying “Decks” click on that tab. This will open up your current deck you have crafted and a button to make new deck.Note: At this point in the alpha you can only have 5 Decks Constructed at a time. It is a very annoying situation as it does not allow you to have one or two per champion. I very much hope this is changed after alpha.

3. To start a new deck Click the New Deck Button.

Next you will pick what deck you want to build:

You will be asked to pick a champion you wish to build a deck for. Pick your Champion of Choice.
Create a name for your deck.
Chose to start with a deck as a template.
This option is optional but i suggest it as you first start building decks as it will help you get an idea of what to start your deck with. After you get more comfortable with the Deck builder id say you can ditch it. It also is nice if you want to try a little modification of one of your current decks you like without damaging the old one.

Click Save to start modifying your deck

Note: At this point in the alpha you can only have 5 Decks Constructed at a time. It is a very annoying situation as it does not allow you to have one or two per champion. I very much hope this is changed after alpha.

This is the Deck Builder Interface and it is very alpha. Let me explain the interface by Sections as follows:

You’re Deck:
The LEFT HAND side of the interface is the current cards in your deck. It will show what cards you have implemented in the deck and quantity. At the top of the column that makes up the left hand side is a count of how many current cards are in your deck out of 40. (40 is the maximum number of cards you can have in your deck at the current time.) Below I will explain the 3 parts that make up your deck in descending order.

Primal Helix – This section will show which Primal Helix is in your deck. You will only have one of these in the deck and how it works is explained up above.

Equipment Cards – The second section show all the equipment items in your deck. This includes Active Equipment (Health/Mana Pots, Wards, ect) and Passive Equipment (Adamant Edge, Tempered Plate, ect)

Upgrade Cards – This is where you have the cards that will augment and improve the Equipment Cards.

You’re Current champions Deck library: (Note only includes cards your current character can use)
The RIGHT HAND side of the Deck builder is your Library of cards. This library contains every card you current champion can use (includes cards he/she should never use but every card he/she could use based on Affinity).

Filter Control:

Across the top of this large box you have 5 buttons to help you locate cards you want:

Stat Filter Menu: This is use to filter through to the cards: stats, ability’s, and cost so you can select out the specific stats you need. (Ex: Crit, Armor Protection, CXP Cost of 2, Lifesteal, Ect.)
ALL: This will show all your cards available to your champion.
Prime: This will show the Prime Cards available to your champion.
Equipment: This will show you all the Equipment Cards available to your champion.
Upgrade: This will show you all the Upgrade Cards available to your champion.

You can apply theses filters to narrow down your cards to what your looking to build. You can apply as many as you would like at a time. (Ex. Equipment Card, CXP Cost of 2, Physical Damage, Attack Speed)

Attributes:
Offensive:
Physical Rating: How much physical damage you do.
Energy Rating: How much energy damage you do.
Physical Armor Pierce: How much your Physical damage ability's/attacks will ignore opponents armor.
Energy Armor Pierce: How much your Energy damage ability's and attack will ignore opponents energy armor.
Shield Pierce: How much of your damage will ignore Shields (unconfirmed).
Attack Speed: How fast you Auto attack with LMB.
Critical Strike Chance: How often your Auto Attacks Critical Strike.
Critical Strike Damage: How much damage your Critical hits will do.
Cleave: How much damage will be done to enemy's who are not your target by auto attacks (Melee characters only).

Defensive:
Max Health: How many Health Points your champion has.
Health Regen: How many health points you get back per second.
Physical Armor: How much damage do you reduce from physical damage sources.
Energy Armor: How much damage do you reduce from energy damage sources.
Lifesteal: how many health points do you get back from auto attacking an enemy.
Perseverance:

Utility:
Max mana: How many Mana Points your champion has.
Mana Regen: How many mana points you get back per second.
Cooldown Reduction: How fast your ability's come back after using them.
Movement Speed: Increases how fast your champion moves outside of travel mode.
Travel Speed: Increases how fast your champion moves in travel mode.

Cost: (CXP)
This section will let you pick how much a card should cost in CXP points in game. Scale ranges from 1 to 10

Deck Building Strategy:
When Building a Deck you need to keep track of your upgrade to equipment ratio. You also need to keep track of what upgrades are in your deck because you can get stuck with upgrades that do not go into cards you have equipped. Keep track of how much points your going to put into each equipment with upgrades because if you find yourself building item 6 and have 59 CXP used but only 3 CXP upgrades left you will not be able to get that [MAXED: ______] Bonus.

U.I. doesn't help much in this department. Also keep in mind upgrades for your FLex Stat/Situwational Cards. These will need upgrades too and only 40 cards to do it in.
