Seven of the Best World of Warcraft Lore That Will Make a Great Movie Sequel

Although the World of Warcraft: The Beginning movie received a lot of criticism, we can't deny the fact that it is now the most successful video game movie. So it deserves a sequel? Many would say "NO" but I surely will agree that it does deserves a sequel or another movie based on the Warcraft video game.

For those who criticized the first film and saying that it doesn't deserve another chance in the big screen, then I say to you right now that you haven't seen anything. The battle between Orcs and Humans you saw in the first film was just the tip of the iceberg. World of Warcraft is a vast world with so many characters and, so many stories to tell.

A few of them are shown in this page. And as a warcraft fanatic, I would like you to tell you some Warcraft stories that are meant to be on the big screen.

1. Thrall's Journey from slave to leader

There are lots of Orcs in World of Warcraft Universe. Some are bad, but some are good. Some are just mere followers of the Legion but others are born good Leaders. Among these good Orcs is Thrall who became a great Orc Leader and have done several things for the sake of Azeroth. If you like a movie that has an Orc as the main protagonist or just simply want to know the good side of the Orcs, then a movie featuring Thrall is definitely your kind of film

Unlike his parents Durotan and Draka, Thrall was born not on Draenor but on Azeroth after the Horde came through the Dark Portal and the Frostwolves were banished for refusing to drink the Blood of Mannoroth. Not long after, Durotan brought his wife and son with him to a secret meeting with Orgrim Doomhammer, second in command of the Blackrock Orcs and Durotan’s lifelong friend. However, Doomhammer couldn’t keep the meeting secret from Gul’dan. Head of the Shadow Council and the power behind Warchief Blackhand, the Warlock saw the opportunity to silence two of his most ardent critics and he took it, sending assassins to slay Durotan and Draka. It was assumed that none survived, including their infant son.

Thrall survived and was kept and raised by a human named Aedelas Blackmoore. He was not raised as a child by Blackmoore however, instead Thrall was merely a slave. A slave which will be the leader of Orcs that is under Blackmoore's banner, aiding him to bring down the Alliance. However, Thrall does not plan to be a slave for his whole life.

He escaped Blackmoore's slavery with the help of Taretha Foxton. He then begun his journey on finding his people and within his journey he met several orcs like Grommash Hellscream which will have a big impact on the world of Azeroth later on. One important moment in Thrall's life is when he faces the Warchief Orgrimm Doomhammer in a battle that the young Orc won. The battle is the start of the new era for Orcs. When Doomhammer was defeated by Thrall in battle, he then told the young Orc of his plans for the freedom of all Orcs in every single internment camp.

After that event, Thrall became a good leader of the Orc and done several things to save not only his kins, but also other races and even made great contributions in order to keep Azeroth safe.

2. The Lich King

This entity is one of the most famous character in the World of Warcraft universe. The story of The Lich King is really exhilirating as it has full of thrills, mysteries and excitement.

It will be thrilling for audience to discover the true origin of the Lich King, which was once Ner'zhul the Draenor Orc Leader who was turned by Kil'jaeden The Deceiver, into the Lich King as a punishment for abandoning the Burning Legion. The story of on this entity does not end there. The Lich King was merely a spirit of Ner'zhul, and to conquer Azeroth and destroy the Burning legion, he needs a body. A vessel in which he found in Arthas Menethil who was turned to a death knight by Lich King himself and soon to merge with him, to unleash the Wrath of the Lich King.

Also, the story before and after the Lich King will definitely be a great story to tell. Audience will definitely be curious to know the past of Ner'zhul and how he became part of the Burning Legion and, the life of Arthas Menethil before he became the death knight of the Lich King. On the other hand, it's will be more interesting to know what has become of them right after merging into one entity. Who controls who? Oh, did I mention that the Lich King cannot be destroyed and someone should take his place to control the Scource, or they will just roam around Azeroth and create chaos?

Lastly, the fight would really be exciting! The Lich King with his armies of undead against The Alliance and the Horde. Now that would be epic! But, that's not the only fight that the Lich King faced. There are ton's of exciting battles that would definitely be great in the big screen. An example would be the epic fight at the Icecrown Citadel where Lich King has fallen and, someone has to take his place.

3. The Betrayer Illidan Stormrage

For World of Warcraft fans, we all know that Illidan spent his life trying to be a hero. A hero that Tyrande Whisperwind, the woman he loved wanted and a hero the night elves needed. His a man who did everything to become powerful but by doing so, he overlooked the fact that great power comes with a price.

In the end, Illidan up unwillingly serving the ones he sought to vanquish, continually running from the Burning Legion and trying to turn the Legion's demon against their creator. He was never a villain that wants to burn everything to ashes like Deathwing, or like The Lich King who wants to see all of Azeroth turns into undead, or like Azshara who wanted to destroy and rebuild the world into her image.

He was merely a man who was desperately trying his best to become the best. He want's great power to impress his fellow night elves and obviously, to get Tyrande's attention. Yet, he never achieved his goal. Instead, he ended up retreating to the Black Temple and tried to outlast the fate that eventually caught up with him.

Now many believed that Illidan Stormrage was killed in the Temple but the fact is, demons cannot be killed. They simply return to the Twisting Nether. Although we defnitely saw a corpse, it does not mean his dead as he survived and he will be returning in World of Warcraft: Legion.

For me Illidan's story is a great story to tell for those who are not familiar with the World of Warcraft world. People will totally like Illidan as an antagonist who wants great power just to get attention, but ended messing things up. Turning into the darkside and fighting the ones he loved. And, did I mention that he has a cool brother named Malfurion Stormrage? Definitely, a fight between them will be awesome in the big screen knowing the fact that Malfurion has the immense power of the druidic arts while Illidan has the unmeasurable power to see and cast all forms of magic.

4. Sylvanas Windrunner's fall and return as the Banshee Queen

Just like Illidan, Sylvanas Windrunner's lore is a good story to tell and just like Stormrage, she was once a good girl gone bad. The only difference is, she was force to do bad things and had the chance to get out of the Burning Legion's control.

Sylvanas Windrunner was once a Ranger-General of the Silvermoon who once protected the High Elves. She fought against the dark knight of the Lich King, Prince Arthas Menethil. The battle for the freedom of Quel'thalas could gone in favor of Sylvanas troop if they wasn't betrated by their own, a magister named Dar'Khan Drathir

Dar'Khan helped the Scourge bypass the ancient runestones that defended Quel'thalas borders and make their way to the Elfgates despite heavy resistance from Sylvanas and her rangers. Once the first Elfgate fell, Sylvanas realized that she couldn’t defeat Arthas, but still she resisted in hopes that a defense of the city could be mounted while she bought time for the magisters.  Unaware of the full scope of Dar’Khan’s betrayal, she didn’t realize that the magisters would not be mustering a defense because Dar’Khan had bound the Sunwell’s magics.

Sylvanas' troops could not defeat Arthas' scourge and she ended up dying with the unholy sword Frostbourne buried in her chest. However, she did not died a clean death. Arthas with the power of necromancy turned her into an undead. Sylvanas would find no rest in her grave. And Azeroth would see the coming of a new power when the Banshee became a Queen of the Forsaken.

5. The Rise of Deathwing

If you want a Warcraft movie wherein you battle a large menacing dragon, then definitely you will definitely love Deathwing.

Deathwing the Destroyer was the sole reason of Cataclysm. but before the event, he terrorized the world in the form of elementals that attacked the main cities. This big bad dragon wasted Azeroth and causes a lot of misery, pain and desctruction to the world. As far as WoW villains go, I can say that Deathwing was definitely one of the most impactful.

Once Cataclysm hit, Deathwing’s efforts increased. He forced some time travellers, Thrall and the remaining Dragon aspects to form an alliance and finally stop him once and for all.

Historically, there’s also no forgetting the fact that Onyxia and Nefarian, offspring of Deathwing, attempted to do their part to stir up trouble in early World of Warcraft. Deathwing had been lurking in Deepholm during that time, awaiting his turn to charbroil bits of Azeroth into lava.

6. The mists of Pandaria

Pandaria is a legendary place of bambus forests and the mysterious pandaren of the Pandaren Empire located in the southern oceans of Azeroth, somewhat mirroring Northrend in location.

Shrouded in fog by Shaohao using Sheilun, Staff of the Mists since the world was sundered more than ten thousand years ago, the ancient realm of Pandaria has remained unspoiled by war. Its lush forests and cloud-ringed mountains are home to a complex ecosystem of indigenous races and exotic creatures. It is the homeland of the enigmatic pandaren, a race that celebrates life to the fullest even while under siege by an ancient menace.

The new continent reveals itself to a broken world just as the Alliance and Horde are spiraling ever closer to a war that will consume all of Azeroth. Will the mists of Pandaria part to reveal the world's salvation? Or will the battle to control this rich and breathtaking new land push the two mighty factions over the brink of war and into total annihilation?

7.  Sargeras, The Titans and The Burning Legion

Finally if you want to know where it truly begun, then let's go back to The Titans and the fall of their champion Sargeras and, the origin of The Burning Legion.

Sargeras was the former champion of the Pantheon's cause. Like the rest of his kind, he was altruistic and just, unable to conceive of pure evil. However, upon his travel on the infinite cosmos, he saw not only peace and and happiness, he also saw nightmares and evil. And that evil corrupted him turning him an enemy of his kin, The Titans.

Convinced that the titans’ ordering of the universe was unnatural and ultimately responsible for the corrupted nature of the demons, Sargeras decided to undo the work of the titans throughout the universe. The only way that he could correct their mistakes was to destroy all of the worlds that the titans had shaped and brought order to so long ago. And that was the time he formed The Burning Legion.

Sargeras and the Legion eventually became aware of the young world of Azeroth due to the Night Elves’ reckless use of arcane magic, and Sargeras began to hunger for the limitless energies of the Well of Eternity. Although Sargeras army is powerful, the night elves, Cenarius' woodfolk and Alexstrasza's dragons formed an alliance to stop him and his legion. They had managed to defeat Sargeras but paid a great cost to throw the demons back into the Twisting Nether. Because the portal rift into the Twisting Nether vanished in such a great display of magical power, the forces holding the worlds together ruptured, causing the Well of Eternity to implode. A massive part of Kalimdor sank beneath the ocean, and where the Well of Eternity had been before there was only a gigantic oceanic vortex, later named the Maelstrom.

So that all about it guys. The ones I mentioned above are not the only stories in the World of Warcraft universe. There are tons of stories from the video games and also from the novels. The above stories are just what I believed to be the best and deserves to be in the big screen.
