Highlight Saving Feature Coming to Overwatch

Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan reveals that Blizzard is working on a feature where players can save their match highlights, though no release date has been set yet.

From exploiting Mei’s ice abilities to its full potential to trolling fellow team members using Symmetra’s teleporter, there certainly has not been a shortage in memorable Overwatch match highlights ever since the game was released last year. In order to save those hilarious and/or impressive match replays for future reference and bragging rights though, players are required to do so through external recording means as there is currently no in-game feature that allows the saving of highlights. However, this could change very soon in the near future.

Following a new post over at the Blizzard Forums in which a player queried about whether a saving highlights button could come in a future update, Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan revealed that the development team are currently working on such a feature and have made good progress. However, fans may need to wait a bit longer before they can save their highlights because Kaplan then stated that there is currently no release window for when this feature will arrive.

This isn’t too surprising given that Kaplan has previously stated that a highlights saving feature isn’t high up on Blizzard’s priority list, especially now with the team currently busy working on new Overwatch content updates and addressing reports of cheating players.

As for future updates that we do know are coming, Blizzard recently launched a new patch to the Overwatch Public Test Region (PTR) that brings balance changes for Roadhog, Ana, and Sombra, and players can almost certainly expect those tweaks to go live in the coming weeks. For those who have yet to get back into the game following the conclusion of the Winter Wonderland event, Blizzard have also added in a new control map called Oasis and it is free for all those who own the game.

With new characters set to join the Overwatch roster this year and new maps to be added in the future, there is an ever increasing scope for impressive match plays that fans would undoubtedly love to file away for future reference. Taking into account Blizzard’s reputation for providing great support for its games and what appears to be a big Overwatch Valentine’s Day event on the cards next month, players can probably expect a highlights saving feature to come sooner rather than later
