This guide is about how to farm rubies using your units, and getting to level 30. It is rather straight forward, So I'll include some other snippets from my Gold Guide as well.
Basically you can get a Hero up to level 30 and receive Rubies 100 times a day.
When you reach level 30 with a Hero for the first time you receive 5 rubies.
Heroes per run: 5
Amount per first 30: 25
When you reach level 30 with a Hero for the second time and beyond you receive 2 rubies.
Heroes per run: 5
Amount per 30 after first: 10

Total amount of time to receive rubies 100 times in a single day.
Considering you don't have enough keys, and you must wait for about 3.16 Hours to receive 19 keys to max out another 5 Heroes, This chart explains how many runs you can do in one day, and how many Rubies you will receive.
