Xbox Scorpio Reveal Coming Soon, Showcases Red Dead 2, Forza 7, Battlefront 2

Project Scorpio, Microsoft’s enhanced console iteration on the Xbox One, is reportedly planned to be fully revealed in the coming weeks showcasing games including: Red Dead Redemption 2, Star Wars Battlefront 2, and Forza Motorsport 7. While Microsoft’s already formally announced Project Scorpio, along with several technical details focusing on the console’s “True 4K” capabilities, much remains to be unveiled. With the Scorpio still planned to launch in late 2017, there’s plenty left for Microsoft to show.

According to the reports, the reveal will include a showcase of software, headlined by the official announcement of Forza Motorsport 7. However, two third-party titles will also be shown and potentially steal the show. Both Red Dead Redemption 2 and Battlefront 2, which are both confirmed for 2017 but have yet to be shown, will be featured as part of the Xbox One‘s True 4K Project Scorpio line-up. The next titles in the FIFA, Madden, and Call of Duty franchises are also planned to be shown running on Scorpio in 4K. Perhaps that’s the rumored Call of Duty: WW2.

While that’s a heck of a third-party showcase, Forza isn’t the only first-party title planned to be shown. Other Microsoft games to be shown include both Crackdown 3 and State of Decay 2. These games are reportedly listed on marketing materials provided to third-party website with an exclusive look at the Scorpio’s debut. Oddly absent from the report is Sea of Thieves, but considering the breadth of games planned to be shown maybe there just wasn’t room.

The only other new details from the report say that Project Scorpio will launch with a strikingly large library of 4K games. This is due to the several games already featuring a “change resilience” feature which utilizes dynamic scaling for resolution. This means many Xbox One games won’t need a patch to look better on Project Scorpio, as they will simply scale up on the console out of the box.

It’s certainly exciting imagining the Xbox Project Scorpio will be debuting soon, but as of right now only one outlet is reporting this news. As such, consider it a rumor for the time being. That said, nothing within the report seems outrageous. And it makes sense for Microsoft to show off Project Scorpio early so they can focus on new software at E3. Also, there’s the fact that Star Wars Battlefront 2 is already scheduled to debut April 15. What better way to officially unveil Project Scorpio than by releasing a bevy of 4K footage of some of late 2017’s most anticipated titles?

Stay tuned for more information regarding Microsoft’s next Xbox One, the True 4K console Project Scorpio, in the weeks and months to come.
