According to a post on Reddit, the newest map for Heroes of the Storm is rumored to be Overwatch themed. User tmurch17 was looking for the Play Now button, which previously sent an email out with a link to download - now it just downloads directly. The email he received can be seen below:
Additionally, a few lines of source code that were on the new Heroes of the Storm 2.0 reveal page confirm that the system was sending these emails. The source code, which was on line 1372 (since removed from the page) read:
"emailBody: "Heroes of the Storm is entering a new era with overhauled progression, Loot Chests full of revolutionary rewards, an Overwatch-themed Battleground, and the deadly assassin Genji!"
The next new hero and battleground are set to unlock on April 17. We've yet to see an Overwatch related Battleground, despite the presence of Tracer, Zarya, and Lucio already in the game. There's also a second hero reveal scheduled for May 4, so it's possible that the Genji reveal may come then.
As for other Blizzard franchises, we'd really like to see the Heroes team dig deeper on World of Warcraft's rich PVP history. A map like Arathi Basin, or even the open world classic Tarren Mill vs Southshore, would be welcomed additions to Heroes.
What's more, the Nexus Challenge is also set to make a return. The last Nexus Challenge featured Genji, and gave Overwatch players the Oni Genji skin for playing 30 games of Heroes of the Storm with friends. The Nexus Challenge 2.0 is set to kick off on April 25.
Here's a full schedule of the reveals for Heroes of the Storm 2.0:
- March 30 - Progression 2.0 Reddit Q&A
- April 12 - Heroes Timeline
- April 17 - New hero and new battleground
- April 18 - Launch Event
- April 19 - Reddit Q&A
- April 20 - New bundles and program
- April 25 - New cinematic, Nexus challenge 2.0, and event
- May 4 - New hero
We've reached out to Blizzard for comment on the leak, and will update if we hear back.
