Mass Effect: Andromeda producer Fernando Melo recently took to Twitter to show off more of Andromeda's multiplayer, showing the Missions feature. This new feature will link up the multiplayer with the single player, but he inadvertently showed that the game will also feature loot boxes.
On the 5th day of MP-mas, the MP dev team gave to you: a new feature in MEA - Missions. Your link between MP/SP. Play & get rewards in both. pic.twitter.com/rBRWxNRHjZ— Fernando Melo (@DiscoBabaloo) March 6, 2017
Based on the image, Mass Effect: Andromeda will have loot boxes of varying tiers, as a continuation of Mass Effect 3's multiplayer Packs. We see Gold Item and Research Data loot boxes, but there are no other hints beyond that what types of boxes will be in the game. These loot boxes appear to be called Pathfinder Rewards - which makes sense in-universe since your character Commander Ryder is one of four pathfinders sent to the Andromeda galaxy.
It's unclear whether these boxes will also be rewards from in-game content. We already know that these will include things like card packs.
It's possible that some versions of these loot boxes could be behind a paywall, with rarer loot inside - but as of now, that's unconfirmed. It would certainly not please the Mass Effect community, whose last interaction with Bioware was dealing with the fallout from the Mass Effect 3 ending controversy.
Maybe loot boxes will come in red, green and blue colors as a throwback?
