A recent livestream event with developers shed more light at the starting stage of the new expansion, as well as some of the underlying themes driving it.
One of those appears to be the fan feedback surrounding karma. While Fallout 3 was based around the ideals of good and bad actions, Fallout 4 revolved more around hope and rebuilding.
This appears to explain the complete lack of a karma system in Fallout 4, instead we have settlements that can be allied and built up.
But in Fallout 4 Nuka World, it appears that the DLC development team were keen to try and make a big nod to the former gaming mechanic, something that is sure to please fans.
“Yeah, it was definitely something after the game came out that we saw a lot of people saying they wanted to do more with Raiders, so it was great that we are able to wrap up the Fallout DLC suite with this,” Bethesda Community Lead Matt Grandstaff said.
“We looked at what fans were asking for and we were thinking about what happened in Fallout 3, with the good and evil, and is there a way to bring that back, Nuka World Lead Artist, Mark Teare added.
“Where as the theme in Fallout 4 was hope and rebuilding, maybe we could turn that on its head a little, and bring back some of that evil gameplay.
“That was something that we put into the pitch and there was also a gamejam from two lead quest developers that included Raider gameplay. And that something that folks responded positively to in the office."
Now, neither Bethesda employee directly say that the karma system is back in all its glory, only that the underlying theme was a big inspiration for the Raider DLC gameplay.
A list of Fallout 4 Nuka World Trophies from the PS4 have recently been discovered, giving some small hints at what is to come from the DLC.
There are a total ten achievements added through the new expansion and if YOU DON’T WANT ANY SPOILERS, you should probably stop reading now.
The Fallout 4 PS4 Trophies reveal that there will be at least four new missions, although it appears as though there will also be Settlement-style quests for Raiders too.
References to establishing Raider Camps in the Commonwealth could also point to players being able to use the new game mechanic outside of the DLC Nuka World area, although this has not been confirmed.
It could also mean that fans can finally take revenge on all the settlements that have hassled them throughout the vanilla campaign for help, Sanctuary could be seen being attacked in a recent trailer for the new DLC.
It could also create an interesting game dynamic where fans could actually build up incredibly difficult bases and then try and destroy them.
