The new Destiny update has been revealed by Bungie, who are hoping to make some major changes to the Dreadnaught and critical Taken King content.
A long list of Destiny update fixes are set to be deployed by the studio for when Crimson Days goes live on February 9 at 6pm.
New playlists are also set to be added, breaking away from the Fireteam model, Freelance 6v6 and Freelance 3v3 will bar fans from entering the game with a select posse, only individuals thrown together will be able to take on the new challenge.
Having an even playing field of strangers was key to this changes, with the new playlists including Clash, Control, and Rift for 6v6 and Salvage, Skirmish, and Elimination for 3v3.
Another sweeping change covers all 3v3 modes; special ammo will be removed from the start of the game in the hope that players will no longer find themselves getting sniped instantly.
This will not change any 6v6 modes however, due to primary weapons not playing such a big role in a less intense environment.
“There are several reasons to limit this change to the 3v3 modes,” Destiny’s Senior Designer Derek Carroll revealed.
“First, the larger game types are generally less sensitive to initial conditions, which gives us more freedom to have Special Weapons going from the beginning.
“Also, smaller gametypes like Skirmish are a bit more hardcore, with more weight applied to each player in the match, so we felt we could try pushing Primary weapons for those initial engagements.
“Conversely, Control is the friendliest place to enter the Crucible, so we wanted to make sure that we don’t present new players with a fundamentally different game than what they’re used to.”
The Taken King February update will also take care of a few problems around the Dreadnaught, Lead Designer Gavin Irby confirmed.
Speaking about the King’s Fall changes, he revealed: “ If you’ve ever been the “runner” in the Daughters of Oryx encounter, you’ve probably encountered an incredibly annoying issue where your camera would snap back to a default position.
"We’ve fixed that, which should make the runner’s job more enjoyable.
“We thought teleporting ogres in the Oryx encounter were totally OP, so we nerfed them into the ground! Actually, there was an unfortunate issue where the bombs were capable of blocking the Ogre’s pathfinding.
“That resulted in them occasionally making a very frustrating teleport to get past the blocked path. Oryx Challenge Mode should be a little more forgiving now.”
