As Pokemon GO experiences a bit of a renaissance thanks to the updated Gym features and new Battle Raids, many old players are returning and some brand new players are jumping on the hype train. For players who are looking to get the most out of the game’s items and may not know all the details already, here’s a quick guide on the best way to use Incense in Pokemon GO.
Usually, players will pop an incense and then hang around a Pokestop and see what shows up. This will often net about one Pokemon every five minutes during the 30 minute window. For players looking to get a little more bang for their buck (since the item is rarely free), there is a secret to getting one Pokemon per minute, but it requires a little speed on the part of the trainer.
Here is the code for Incense, via Reddit, decides to trigger a new Pokemon spawn…
To translate that to English, here is the deal:
Players standing still will trigger one spawn roughly every 300 seconds.
Players moving 200 meters per minute will trigger one spawn every 60 seconds.
200 meters per minute is close to a sprint for most people, so players do need to hustle if they really want to hit that mark every minute that the incense is active. Unfortunately, the easiest ways to pull this off aren’t exactly the safest. Riding a bike and stopping every 200 meters is likely the easiest way for most players to achieve the goal if they aren’t runners.
Some players recommend being the passenger in a very slow moving car (about 7mph), but for safety reasons, we don’t recommend this.
Try moving around at a decent speed the next time you use an incense and see if you are able to trigger more than the average of five or six spawns. Good luck out there, trainers!
