The Pokemon Company and Nintendo are releasing a special Shiny version of Tapu Koko today, available for all Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon players. The Electric/Fairy Legendary Pokemon may be better known to Pokemon Sun and Moon players as the guardian deity of Melemele island, the island where trainers start their journey. But now Tapu Koko can be every player’s personal guardian deity, so long as they are able to connect to the Nintendo Network.
Tapu Koko’s release is part of the upcoming launch of the next Pokemon TCG expansion, Guardians Rising. The Legendary Pokemon has been chosen to be the mascot for the card game’s expansion, featured prominently on its Booster Pack art as well as on its own Tapu Koko Figure Collection — including an exclusive foil promo card. Pokemon Sun and Moon players will likely be happy with the Shiny Tapu Koko whether they’re fans of the Pokemon TCG or not.
Pokemon Sun and Moon players who would like to have their own Shiny Tapu Koko hopefully know the routine by now, but if not, Nintendo has provided a handy step-by-step guide. There’s no code required, unlike other promotional event Pokemon, as Tapu Koko is delivered via Nintendo Network’s Mystery Gift functionality. Here are the steps to follow:
- Select Mystery Gift on the main menu.
- Select Receive Gift.
- Select Get via Internet, and then Yes to connect to the Internet.
- Watch as you receive Tapu Koko.
- Speak to the delivery person in any Pokémon Center to pick up Tapu Koko.
- Be sure to save your game!
Everyone’s Shiny Tapu Koko will be exactly the same. It will be level 60, have the Electric Surge ability, and be holding an Electric Seed which increases its defense. Its move-set will have the skills Nature’s Madness, Discharge, Agility, and Electro Ball.
Tapu Koko will also have some fantastic Z-Crystal abilities. Holding Tapunium Z converts Nature’s Madness into the Guardian of Alola attack, while Electrium Z unlocks the 160-base damage attack, Gigavolt Havoc.
Make sure to pick up your Nintendo 3DS and receive Shiny Tapu Koko soon, because this is a limited time event. Pokemon Sun and Moon players will have until August 14 to make the Pokemon their own, but after that Tapu Koko will once again become an Alolan fable.
