A one-hit kill exploit in For Honor was discovered over the weekend, but has since been addressed by Ubisoft. Following the short maintenance this morning, you should no longer be able to abuse or be the victim of the insta-kill glitch.
First found using the Warden, you could input a series of actions that tricks the game into thinking you initiated a Death from Above move. Essentially, if you used Guardbreak out of lock-on, then quickly locked to your target and used a heavy attack, you would often kill another player in a single strike.
After further testing, this exploit was found to work on several other classes. The developers introduced a small patch today to fix the exploit, not waiting for a larger content update. This bug was not due to any specific For Honor update and could've plagued the game since launch. Luckily, the exploit was found after Ubisoft's new intent to address major bugs as fast as possible.
That said, to quickly address the issue Ubisoft was forced to introduce new glitches for certain classes. Now, with the following characters, using Guardbreak followed by an attack out of lock results in an attack stance different than the default:
Lawbringer: Left Stance on light and heavy attacks instead of Right Stance.
Conqueror: Top Stance on light attacks instead of Right Stance.
Nobushi: Left Stance on heavy attacks instead of Right Stance.
Berserker: Left Stance on light and heavy attacks instead of Right Stance.
Raider: Top Stance on light attacks instead of Right Stance.
These new stances will be fixed in a future update.
In addition to the fix, Ubisoft asked players to record their games and report as many abusers as possible as it breaks For Honor's Code of Conduct: “Exploitation of any new or known glitches or bugs which provide an unfair advantage over other players is forbidden and may result in character stats and progression resets, account suspension or revocation."
As such, if Ubisoft confirms your use of the exploit over the weekend, you may receive a sanction. First offenders receive a warning while further confirmations may result in a three-day or permanent ban. Similarly, if you were previously sanctioned for AFK experience farming, you may receive more drastic punishment.
We know that this may be a controversial choice for some of you, but as we expect the period in which this bug is alive to be a short one, we feel it’s a necessary step to preserve the gameplay experience of all of our players until the bug is addressed. While we, the development team, must take responsibility for the bug’s existence, we cannot allow players free reign to purposefully negatively impact another’s experience.
For Honor's next content drop comes this Thursday, which new emotes, outfits, ornaments, or player effects.
