Bethesda reveals that one of the most popular PC mods for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Chesko’s Frostfall mod, is making its way to the Xbox One version of the game.
Back when Microsoft first announced that console mods were coming to Xbox One, the possibilities had fans excited. So far, we’ve only seen a couple of games take advantage of the feature, but Bethesda has been a big proponent of it, introducing console gamers to mods with Fallout 4, and bringing console mods to the upcoming special edition of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Console mods will be available at launch for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and while we still aren’t sure of all the mods that will release alongside the game, one of its more popular mods has been confirmed, and is already available to download on Xbox One.
Frostfall, a mod created by Chesko, adds significant survival game elements to Skyrim. The goal of the Frostfall mod is to make Bethesda’s fantasy epic be more immersive, and feel like a more realistic experience overall. Fans that decide to download Frostfall for Skyrim on consoles will have to fight against more than just dragons; they will also have to contend with the threats of hypothermia and dangerous weather conditions.
The mod can be tweaked so that players can customize their Frostfall experience to suit their needs, but the most hardcore players will have to keep in mind the clothes their character is wearing, what time of day it is, and what the weather is like. Camping is also a central feature of the mod, and it is required for players that hope to survive the harsh elements of Skyrim’s snowy mountains.
Besides cranking up the difficulty, the Frostfall mod has other features that players may want to take advantage of. It improves Skyrim‘s snow and ice visuals (or at least, it did before this new edition’s enhanced graphics), adds new sounds to the game, implements an Endurance skill, and gives players the opportunity to learn 13 new spells not found in the base game.
Fans that want to try out the Frostfall mod for themselves should be able to do so as soon as the game launches this coming Friday, October 28th on Xbox One. There should be minimal technical difficulties with the mod, as Chesko already has experience porting PC mods to Xbox, as his Fallout 4 camping mod was one of the first console mods available. Chesko’s previous console mods have been well-received, and there’s a good chance Frostfall will be downloaded by many Skyrim enthusiasts looking to expand their experience.
In the meantime, it will be interesting to see what other mods make their way to Skyrim on consoles. Mods that use licensed material, like the one that adds the Transformers movie song to the game, are unlikely to be featured on the service, but there are plenty of other mods in the vein of Frostfall that are possibilities. Over the next few months, Elder Scrolls fans on consoles should be able to look forward to many mods to enhance their Skyrim adventures.
