Pokemon Go Buddy System: Candy Distance & Pokemon Size Info

Pokemon Go Buddy System: Candy Distance & Pokemon Size Info
Pokemon Go trainers everywhere are getting excited for the game’s newest feature. In the forthcoming update, players will be able to select one Pokemon as a “buddy,” and this Pokemon will walk around with you on the map. You will then get rewards for traveling a certain distance with your buddy.

The main reward appears to be candy, which players receive for walking certain distances with their Pokemon. That distance will be measured using the same system that the game uses for hatching eggs.

In addition, the buddy Pokemon will be displayed on your avatar screen, either sitting next to you, flying next to you, standing behind you, or perched on your shoulder. To get a glimpse at the feature, take a look at some of the official screenshots released by Niantic.

So basically, what we know so far is that:

1. You are limited to one buddy Pokemon at a time.

2. There are four different buddy size categories:
  • Medium
  • Shoulder
  • Big
  • Flying
3. Traveling a set distance rewards candies:
  • 1 KM
  • 2 KM
  • 3 KM
4, Pokemon who are buddies cannot be deployed to gyms

Now ever since this feature was announced, players have been speculating how much candy you will get for each kilometer walked and if that will be Pokemon-specific, as well as how the game will decide how the Pokemon is displayed on the screen. Now, data apparently discovered in the game’s source code may reveal the answers to both of those questions.

As compiled by reddit user elfinlazz, the following chart breaks down how many kilometers you will need to walk in order to achieve a candy and what size the game will classify your buddy as.

The update is expected to be released next week, so stayed tuned for updates about whether this early information was accurate.
