Bungie Won't Release Any Update on Destiny: The Taken King Until Sometime in February

Developer Bungie announces that the next update for its sci-fi shooter, Destiny, won’t release until sometime in the forthcoming month of February 2016.

Today, Bungie took to its official Twitter account to reveal its Weekly Update for Destiny will come back on January 21, 2016, and the dispatch will offer fans a preview of the next update for the game that’s planned to drop sometime in February. According to the studio, Guardians won’t get a “full reveal” of Destiny‘s upcoming content, as they will only be getting a taste of what’s on the horizon.

As seen below, the tweet by Bungie offers no specific details about any of February’s materials, other than to say that there’s “more to come”. The only notion Destiny fans have to go on as far as what might be in the next update goes is Bungie’s tease back in December of a new raid and DLC for 2016 that contains an event similar to Festival of the Lost early this year, and an experience that’s supposedly bigger than anything since the release of The Taken King.

So far, the only new materials Destiny fans have received since the start of 2016 have been yesterday’s New Year’s gift of 15 Strange Coins, 15 Motes of Light, and an Emblem. Although the free loot is surely much appreciated by Guardians, they would probably be even more grateful if there were a clearer idea regarding the type of content in store for them this year instead of today’s announcement of a forthcoming announcement.

Sure, it’s understandable that Bungie needs to reel in an audience with teasers rather than tip its hand completely, but Destiny fans are obviously craving for fresh materials, and it seems as if the studio may be unfairly leading them on by keeping them in the dark. After all, gamers like the team who beat Oryx using no bullets can only replay the same raids and modes over and over again with self-imposed limitations until they start spending more of their time with other titles simply for the sake of a new gameplay.

As of now, it’s really anyone’s guess as to what’s in store for Destiny this February, especially since Bungie has promised that the first Weekly Update of 2016 won’t disclose anything hugely revelatory. With any luck, the studio will be able to give its action-MMO the shot in the arm it needs in order to remain relevant alongside some of the most anticipated video games of 2016.
