What Bungie Has to Say About Destiny Expansion Rumors

After weeks of speculation, Bungie addresses the rumors surrounding the next expansion pack for MMO shooter Destiny, which is alleged to be arriving in September of this year.

There’s nothing quite like a good gaming mystery, and fans of Bungie’s shooter Destiny received a doozy in recent weeks. A Reddit user by the name of Rezyl Azzir, using a new Grimoire lore card of the same name, cryptically suggested that another Destiny expansion was inbound on September 20. Now, Bungie has officially responded to these rumors.

Unfortunately for those who were hoping for some brand new Destiny content, the developer has distanced itself from the user in question. Bungie’s community manager David ‘Deej’ Dague took on the whispers head-on through the latest Destiny weekly blog post. Alongside a wealth of other information, Deej confirmed that the developer was not behind the mysterious Rezyl Azzir, stating “Rezyl Azzir is not one of us.”

The developer seems to be taking a light-hearted approach to the whole situation, however. “We cannot confirm nor can we decipher these riddles,” said DeeJ, continuing to reveal that “it’s a mystery to us as well.” However, DeeJ did admit that the speculation surrounding the Rezyl Azzir rumor was a lot of fun, suggesting that those who followed the Rezyl Azzir mystery should “enjoy the speculation.”

Rezyl Azzir, as well as some other mysterious users, initially started posting earlier this month, stirring up plenty of intrigue among the Destiny fan community. The chance that it was a real Bungie promotion method was perhaps always going to be a long shot, but after the developer had previously used Alternate Reality Gaming as a way to hype up Halo 2, it’s no wonder that some hoped that the poster would turn out to be legitimate. In the end, however, it’s still been an entertaining diversion for Destiny players hoping for some new content.

That content is still expected to arrive at some point, however. Bungie has confirmed that a new “large” expansion is set to hit the game in late 2016. What’s more, Destiny 2 is still on the horizon, with the developer expecting to have the anticipated sequel ready by some point in 2017.

What this new content will contain remains to be seen, however. Many are hoping that some of the more glaring flaws of the game get a little tweak, with perhaps this large expansion finally giving players some insight into the game’s plot. Until then, players can find solace in the April Update, which brought with it a new reason to check out the King’s Fall Raid.
